This year, figures in the development of AI, such as John Hopfield and Geoffrey Hinton in Physics, as well as Demis Hassabis, John Jumper, and David Baker in Chemistry, are celebrated for their outstanding contributions.
💡 Demis Hassabis and John Jumper led the team that developed the AlphaFold model, an AI capable of predicting protein structure with unprecedented accuracy, opening doors to new discoveries in biology and medicine.
🔬 For his part, David Baker has used AI to design new proteins, a promising advance for medicine and biotechnology.
💡 John Hopfield, known for his seminal work on neural networks, helped lay the foundations of machine learning with the famous “Hopfield network” . 🔬 As for Geoffrey Hinton, one of the “godfathers of AI”, he contributed to the rise of deep neural networks, which today enable applications such as image and voice recognition, virtual assistants, and much more.
With their work, these pioneers have made AI an engine of innovation that has enabled fundamental discoveries in fields such as physics, chemistry, and biology. 🚀
